Today we are going to discuss the important part of interviews where most of the candidates will be filtered out the JAM and Essay writing in Finance interviews.
Everybody knows Essay writing, and most of you also know JAM which is not but Just A Minute.
There is a similarity between this two which I wanted you to know in both of these that is either a topic will be given by the interviewer to you or else the interviewer might ask you to choose your own topic.
The difference between this two is for JAM you have very little time for developing the content in your mind regarding the topic, where as for Essay writing you might have sufficient time for developing the content.
So as timing is only consideration between the two, I will discuss on how to develop the content within short time for the JAM, which will be obviously helpful for the ESSAY writing as you will be having sufficient time.
The first thing what you need to do is search in google for the most frequent topics asked for Essay writing or Jams in finance interviews and by heart them, off-course you might night like this idea, but trust me this plays well in real time. I suggest to be prepared with at least 15-20 topics.
The advantage of this is if the interviewer luckily asks from the topics which you already prepared or asks to choose your own topic, as we are already prepared, so obviously we are going to stand out in the top for this round.
How ever luck may not favor us every time, so what if the interviewer asks a different topic which we haven't prepared and if that is for JAM, then we will have very little time to develop the content.
Here is the solution in such cases, any topic you take a news paper editorial, or a story or an article, any thing will have the basic structure of
Introduction
Body
Conclusion
The introduction part introduces you about the topic, story or characters, the body is the discussion what we make on the introduction given and finally come out of the conclusion with body. So keep in mind for any topic the structure or the skeleton will have three things mentioned above.
Now lets us how to develop this Introduction, Body, Conclusion, within no time when somebody gives the topic. Here is the small technique, just remember the first four letters of word call PREPARATION that is PREP
P - Point
R- Reason
E-Example
P - Point(conclusion)
P-Point: If some one gives a topic, decide whether you are supporting that point or opposing that point based on that you develop the content. If it is neutral point like if the topic given is NEWS PAPERS, just start with general point like describing news papers, these are daily printed papers with different news in it.
R-Reason: After making your point the next thing is support your point by giving the reason, if you are supporting some thing tell them the reason for supporting it or the reason for opposing it and if its neutral point tell the advantages and disadvantages of the point like in our example we can continue saying having news papers makes us to know about different news but different areas.
E -Example: Give an example for the point you made, for example for news papers topic you make take the important news you came to know today by reading the news paper, you may say today by reading the news paper I came to know that Sensex and nifty has fallen so much causing a loss to Investors.
P-Point(Conclusion).: Finally in conclusion you can reiterate your point mentioned at the starting stating that is why I support or oppose the given point.
If you keep this in mind and develop content it will hardly take one minute during interview process and you will be getting through the round easily.
The same rule applies for essay writing as well. So wish you good luck, see you in next post with another interesting topic :)
