Answer for First Finance Interview Question - Tell me about Yourself

Today we are going to discuss about the very first question in any finance interview "Tell about yourself"

Most of the MBA finance freshers or experienced or working finance professionals think that this rather simple question to start an interview and is used to make the interviewee comfortable before going to the real interview.

Of course you are right, but let me tell you this question is also giving you any opportunity to tell them  how are fit for the job. This is just like marketing yourself to the company.

Just think it in this way suppose you are sales person selling a XYZ product to the customer. A customer is interested in your product and came to you asking about the product, now how your explanation would be, you would of-course explain about the product but the main target of your explanation will be of making the customer to buy it.

Same in the above scenario just assume you yourself as a product, a company as customer shown interest in your profile and now it came to you and asking about you, so you should be telling about yourself keeping in mind that the company should hire you. How you are going to do it?

The answer for the First finance interview Question

Any interview panel will be least bothered about your personal information like your address, your father name so don't stress much on that, the stress should be more on your professional side.

If you are fresher start with your qualification and the academic project you have done. But be careful here because the next questions will be more on your project in this scenario. But you should be prepared for that no other option. However we cover that as well how to prepare about your academic project for finance interviews in our coming topics. Then cover about your technical skills, personal skills etc.

If you are an experienced Finance working professional attending the finance interview, the stress should be more on the work you done and the awards or rewards you received in your previous organization and how you are 100% fit for the new job role etc.

Finally close your answer stating your objective like how you want to improve your skills while working with the organization by benefiting yourself along with organizational growth. If you plan your answer in this way no doubt you already won 50% of your battled in any finance interview you are attending. ALL THE BEST 😀

Finance Interview Tips - Resume Preparation

Once you finish MBA Finance and looking for jobs like Financial Analyst, the first thing you require is a "Resume". The process of preparing resume is really a big challenge for MBA Finance Fresher. So come lets make it simple. I feel you should first understand the practical purpose of resume in the interview process. So let us try to know what is a resume and the importance of preparing a resume for finance interviews

Resume serves as a kind of information document signed and given by you to Companies providing all information about you which will help the companies to know your qualifications, your personal information like address, email id and phone number and other details which helps the companies to understand, how well you are suitable for particular vacancy available in the organization.

Any resume, especially when we are taking about the Finance Freshers Resume for attending Finance Interviews, should contain all the blow said sections, as these are very important for any organization   to process your profile for the Financial Analyst jobs .
  1. Header
  2. Objective
  3. Educational Qualifications
  4. Project Details
  5. Technical Skills
  6. Personal Profile
  7. Acknowledgement

1. Header:- You must be very confused with header as to keep it as "Resume" or "Curriculum vitae", some of you might be thinking that the heading "Resume" is for Experienced persons and "Curriculum Vitae" is for freshers and so on. Practically speaking I would say only one thing companies recruting MBA finance Freshers or experienced persons are least bothered about whether you kept it "Resume" or "Curriculum Vitae" in your heading. I would personally suggest don't keep any heading at all, just put your Name, Email ID and Number just as shown below which serves as both heading and your primary information, the main advantage of this is companies always need your name email id and phone number to pass any communication to you and it will be right at the top which will make it easy for them.

2. Objective: - No need to break your heads for this, this section is almost ignored in the interviews especially in finance interviews for freshers, but it might be a different case if you are looking for a marketing job or advertising job. However I would suggest keep it simple, within three lines as shown below and it should be practically meaningful.

3. Educational Qualification:- This is important section for Finance Freshers who are looking for Financial Analyst jobs. The Companies concentrate on this section, mainly to know your percentage, year of passing and college and or university you are passed out. I would suggest you go in descending order while providing this information, that the highest degree should be mentioned first and should go all the way to your schooling as shown below. Here is a tip which I wanted to give, in any section, its forbidden to give wrong information as you are going to sign it before submitting it to any recruiter. So instead of providing wrong information, it is always good to hide it, I would cover more on this in a video, which I'm going to make on resume preparation.

4.Project Details :- This is another most important section where you should be very careful, the recruiters never ask you to bring the project completion certificate as a proof, but whether you have copied the project from your senior or purchased the project for money from market, what ever, you are going to keep here, please except a lot of questions coming to you as bullets from this area. I would suggest you to keep a project which is familiar to you. I will make a separate video on that please watch it for different projects.

5. Technical Skills :- For finance freshers the technical skills required is familiarity with MS Office, apart from that if you are aware of SQL and other languages it would be good. So dont miss this section, please fill it as I mentioned below

6. Personal Profile :- Here company wants to know your personal details like your address, family background etc. I will cover the importance of this in one video.

7. Acknowledgement :-  This is just giving the companies the confirmation that the information provided in the above sections is genuine, so better not to skip it as well

So hope this is helpful, will see you soon with another intersting topic soon 😊
